Welcome to Foundation!

Foundation 2 Sports Day Tuesday 21st June 2016

What a brilliant sports day it was!

Thank you so much to all of the spectators who came along to support the children. Your smiley faces and encouragement were much appreciated by all those taking part.

A big thank you also goes to our year 6 children from Miss Pickering’s class who helped to run the activities. They were brilliant and we couldn’t have ran the event without them.

Finally well done to all of the children for their effort. You did a great job! Blue was a lucky colour… well done to Blue Team 1 and Blue Team 2 for winning this year.

Summer Term

This half-term F2 will be thinking about Mini-beasts. We will enjoy a visit to the Tropical Butterfly House at North Anston to find out about, and maybe even get to touch, all sorts of mini-beasts. We will be using information books to find out about caterpillars and butterflies, ladybirds and bees in more detail. We will discuss similarities and differences between the mini-beasts and as usual will be exploring the topic through lots of stories, painting, making and discovery activities.

After half-term our topic will be Growing. We will start off looking at plants and what they need to grow and survive. We will follow instructions for planting and then looking after a seed as it grows. We also hope to develop our outside area while looking at plants. We will then look at humans and other animals and how they grow and change. This will include looking at ways to keep healthy and safe and some reasons why peoples lives were different in the past.

Sports Relief 2016

A big congratulations to all the children who helped raise money for sports relief this year. Sports Relief is part of the Comic Relief Charity and raises money for worthy causes both within and outside of the UK.

For our fundraising activities we decided to do a sponsored mile. The children could run or walk for a mile around the school’s playground. Also, we had a sporty dress up day where all the children looked fantastic.

This year we raised an amazing £2223.50!

We would like to thank everyone for your continued support. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Spring 2016

During the Spring Term we will be focusing on Traditional Stories. We will be using the stories of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs to talk about characters, settings, instructions and understanding what they have read. We will be tasting porridge, planting a bean seed and (hopefully!) watching it grow, testing the properties of different materials and choosing the best ones to build a house!

After half-term we will be working on topics chosen by the children. They have chosen Princes, Princesses and Castles, Dinosaurs, Superheroes, People Who Help Us, Transport and Star Wars.

We will be using the topics to consider similarities and differences between now and the past, features of different environments (including space!) and how environments vary. We will also consider the differences between ourselves and others and find out about the technology used in cars.

Our Class Targets

Every half term every class decides upon a target. They have to work together to achieve their target 100 times. If they complete this they will have a reward afternoon. The reward is also decided by the class.

Mrs Swain and Miss Carrington's class target: To put our hand up when we want to speak during carpet time.

Miss Thomason's class target is: To put our hand up when we want to speak during carpet time.

Good luck to both classes smiley
