JRSO

2016-2017

We are all looking forward to starting JRSO again this year. We have lots of things to plan this term including Road Safety Week! We look forward to announcing our new JRSO team and seeing all the things they plan to do over the year.

What a busy term!

We have been busy planning an assembly to teach children how to stay safe when playing outside. With the summer fast approaching we think it is important all children are equipped with the knowledge to keep themselves safe.

We are also looking forward to recruiting the new team for 2016 - 17. If you are interested in becoming a Junior Road Safety Officer and making a difference to our local environment then write a letter to us stating why you would like to join. We look forward to hearing from you.

This term we are going to be looking at playing safe when roads are nearby.

STOP THE PRESS!

We are delighted to announce that JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers) are going to be doing a competition across school to promote parking responsibly in our community.

To enter the competition, you need to design a poster promoting friendly parking outside school. This could include for example, not parking on the yellow lines, not blocking the neighbour’s driveways or even not parking on the grass verges.

The posters must be on A4 paper and promote parking responsibly. All entries must be in by Friday 5th February 2016 and given to Miss Senior, Miss Matthews or a member or JRSO. Please ensure you have your name and class on the back of your poster.

There will be two winners for this competition, one from Foundation Stage and Key Stage One and the other from Key Stage Two. The winning entries will be displayed around school.

Thank you for your support.

The JRSO Team.

This term is all about Winter Weather. We are going to be discussing how children travel to school and from school. We are aware of the amounts of cars that park outside our school, and we would like to make it easier for the residents to be able to get out of their drives.

We are going to be announcing a competition to promote friendly parking outside our school. Not only will this be beneficial for the residents of Black Scotch Lane, it will also help to keep the children at our school safe.

Cambridgeshire Primary school have made a fantastic video for their parents about parking safely outside their school. We hope Berry Hill Parents and Carers will park considerately as well.

A message from primary schools across Cambridgeshire to all those naughty parents who park on the yellow lines outside school. Enjoy.

JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officer) is held once a fortnight on a Wednesday after school at 3:30-4:00pm. We use this time to discuss how we can make the school more aware of road safety. We have a theme every term to look at and promote across our school and community.

This year we have received many applications from children to become JRSO's. Our Year 6 officers have looked at them all and are proud to announce that the following children will be our new JRSO's this year:

Year 5
Elizabeth, Kellie, Jasmine, Ruby, Emma, Lucia, Ethan, Ewan, Robert, Zofia and Neve.

Year 6
Morgan, Megan, Ellie, Sophia, Phoebe, Rhys and Dylan.

This term we are focusing on 'Road Safety'. As a team we have decided to promote road safety across the school. We will do this be preparing an assembly for both KS1 and KS2 that will include a PowerPoint Presentation and some role play showing how to cross the road safely. This will include encouraging children to walk to school safely during October. Also, we have organised a Road Safety week. This will commence the week beginning 23rd November 2015. During this week the JRSO's are organising activities for the whole school that include interactive workshops for Year 5 and 6.

We are looking forward to some exciting future projects and competitions.
