As you know, we recently had a visit from Ofsted. We were really proud of the children who behaved well throughout; the team commented on their good manners and welcoming nature. They clearly demonstrated and explained our Berry Ethos and values including being respectful towards others. We were pleased with the positives that they found during their visit.
It was reassuring to hear that all of our pupils feel safe and are well cared for, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and are particularly well supported by our teaching assistants. It was encouraging to note that Ofsted have acknowledged actions taken to bring about change and some of the impact that these actions have already had including the successful raising of standards in phonics and writing. Recognising the difficulties faced by many schools to recruit and retain high-quality teachers, the Inspectors were aware of our more challenging times.
Children experience a broad and balanced curriculum at Berry Hill and this is enhanced by excursions and a variety of visitors into school. Included in our curriculum, it was recognised that our children have lots of opportunities to take part in a range of sporting events.
Moving forward, we are already acting on the areas both school and Ofsted have identified for improvement and feel confident that we are heading in the right direction. It was acknowledged that improvements are under way. As we start the New Year we look forward to sharing more details with you concerning developments. We value your support in our journey to becoming the best we can be. Well supported by our Governors, we know that we will expand upon the positives such as those demonstrated in our Early Years provision and other areas highlighted in the report.
