The week of the 6th November was our Remembrance week across school. Children did a variety of work relating to Remembrance from artwork to writing poems about war. Year 6 had a go at making the poppies that the British Legion sell and Year 4 welcomed Jo Riley, a visitor into school, to find out about the research she had done on a former local MP who helped make a change to the law about the age of people joining overseas.
On Friday 10th November Year 4 children held a memorial ceremony on the KS1 playground by the new memorial bench which commemorates the local people who lost their lives in the war. We received a grant from the Nottinghamshire County Council Community Commemoration Fund and thought a bench would be a lovely thing for everyone in the school community to see and use. Some Year 4 pupils read out their war poems which everyone worked really hard on during the week. We also held a two minutes silence to show our respect.
